Building on more than thirty years of diverse experiences in the maritime industry, Michael A. Allen founded Allen Maritime in 1999 seeking to grow a premier marine consultancy around the maritime transportation and petrogas industries. An experienced Offshore Installation Manager of 6th Generation DP drilling rigs, and former Master of Transocean's legendary DP-3 drillship, the Deepwater Pathfinder, Capt. Allen was soon joined by Richard Smith, another seasoned veteran from the dynamic positioning community.

Today, their extensive experience with DP is harnessed regularly by a growing clientele of industry leaders. Working with the likes of Noble Denton Marine, J.F.Moore International, and Global Maritime, AMI regularly take's on key roles in world-class marine & oilfield projects...often at the behest of industry giants such as Royal Dutch Shell, Exxon-Mobil, and British Petroleum.

Finding his sea legs as a young lobsterman in Newport, Rhode Island, Captain Allen has since spent three decades following the call of the sea.

Finding his sea legs as a young lobsterman in Newport, Rhode Island, Captain Allen has since spent three decades following the call of the sea. Plying offshore tugs, break-bulk cargo liners, passenger vessels, semi-submersibles, and drillships, he has collected a rich and diverse trove of marine experiences. A lifelong student & educator as well, his career at sea has been punctuated by commitments with teaching, graduate study, and research. He splits his shore-side time between homes in Nova Scotia, Canada, and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Rick brings a wealth of marine and dynamic positioning experience to the consultancy. Senior Officer aboard a 5th Generation DP-3 drillship, Rick has been working around dynamic positioning for more than a decade. Originally hailing from the great state of Maine, Richard, his wife, and two sons now live in Houma, Louisiana where Richard also teaches and writes curriculum at Louisiana Technical College.

Providing key technical support to the group, Dave Pence has worked with Transocean Drilling for 15+ years as a Chief Electronic Tecnnician on a plethora of drillships and semisubmersibles. Working daily with new technolgies and state of the art DP systems, be brings a wealth of technical knowledge and expertise to our practice. Living in North Zulch, Texas, Dave spends his free time travelling , working on his home, and reading.
